As part of a grant from the Regional Agency on Aging, San Luis Obispo Legal Alternatives Corporation provides free legal advice to individuals 60 years of age and older in San Luis Obispo County through the SLO Legal Assistance Foundation (SLOLAF). SLOLAF provides individuals with confidential advice and advice by appointment.
The project provides advocates at senior centers across the county who meet by appointment with seniors to answer their individual questions. SLOLAF is pleased to provide legal advice and support to the Lumina Alliance (a merged organisation of Stand Strong and RISE) for its Victim Legal Assistance Programme, which will provide free legal services funded by a grant from the Federal Ministry of Justice for Violence against Women (OVW) until September 2024. Services include legal assistance in family law, housing law, labour law and immigration law resulting from intimate partner violence. For more information on eligibility and receipt of legal services, call 805-781-6418 Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or visit the Lumina Alliance website. Potential clients should call this number directly as there are no “walk-in” legal services. We provide free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income residents of San Luis Obispo County, including seniors (60 years and older), veterans, people with disabilities, and other individuals/families. In partnership with the San Luis Obispo Community Engagement Partnership and other community partners, SLOLAF provides free legal assistance to eligible veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to help veterans successfully transition to permanent housing. SLOLAF is particularly concerned that those most in need receive support for income support programs (social security, ISS, food stamps, etc.), housing needs (landlord-tenants, evictions, nursing homes, and food and care situations) and protection from elder abuse situations. However, services are available regardless of income status.
