When you open the eCourts Services app, you will see a field through which you can “Search CNR”. The CNR number is a unique 16-digit alphanumeric number assigned to each case filed with the high or district courts. You can also access the information by simply scanning the QR code. The status of the case can also be searched by party name, file number, application number, lawyer name, FIR number or type of law. In an effort to digitize the justice system and make it easier for ordinary people, the government has launched an eCourts Services mobile app based on the ecourts.gov.in/ website, which allows any litigant, lawyer, judge or other person to review the current status of a case in district courts or high courts across India. The app has had some success so far, recording more than a million downloads on the Google Play Store, with a score of 4.3 out of 5. “All of this would be useful if the courts become proactive and orders (on the website and in the app) are updated as soon as they are passed. Updating the order in some district courts is usually delayed by 10 to 15 days, which becomes very difficult,” says Alok Shankar, a lawyer at Advaita Legal. While there are some work-related challenges in some courts, the app has brought a lot of relief to litigants as they can access the details of their case directly on their phones. If you don`t have or can`t find the CNR number, relax. A case can also be searched in other options such as file number, party name, application number, FIR number, lawyer name, deed, case type, and reservation. The app is seen as a major step towards the digitization of courts and therefore as a trouble-free system.
In the application, the services are offered under different subtitles, namely Search by CNR, Status of Cases, List of Causes and My Cases. All information on Supreme Court and District Court cases can be accessed through this mobile app alone. The digitization process in all courts will help reduce a lot of time and paperwork and speed up the court process, Jaykar says. “Transferring files from the Supreme Court to the Supreme Court usually takes a long time and it is possible that a case will not arrive on time. Once these are digitized, all data can be transmitted digitally through appropriate channels,” he said. Search for your case by CNR number. CNR is a unique number assigned to each case filed in the District and Taluka Courts. Once the CNR number is entered, you can get the current status and details of the case. SC launches 3 applications After selecting one of the options and entering the required details, you can get the case details such as case type, login number, login date, registration number and date, and CNR number. The site also has the status of the case, which includes the date of the first hearing, the date of the decision, the status of the case, the court number and the judge.
It shall also include the names of the applicants, the defendant and their respective lawyers, the documents under which the case was filed, the history of the hearing and the final orders or judgments. Even though judges are familiar with the technology, they don`t update the website or app on their own. They transmit the order to their respective stenographers, who in turn transmit it to the data subject for updating the data on the website. It takes a long time in some district courts, Shankar said, adding that while the app and websites have helped users tremendously, there is “room for immense improvement.” While this service has brought a lot of transparency to the justice system and allowed people to access information related to their cases, all these important details related to the case are only available when their data is uploaded by the courts to their respective websites. Last year, the Supreme Court and the Department of Justice launched the eCourts Services app, which allows individuals, litigants, lawyers, police officers and others to access information about court proceedings anytime, anywhere. The eCourts Services app is available on Google Play and the Apple Store. “About 10 years ago you had to rely on the lawyers to get the verdict, with the help of eCourts, it`s very easy to access the court`s decision,” said Jaykar KS, a lawyer at the Kerala High Court. Also read 42 lakh cases pending before the high courts, Allahabad has the highest number of verdict copies available in the app, which means you don`t have to wait long to access the printed copy of the verdict. The app is extremely useful and beneficial for lawyers and litigants.
With this app, one can easily receive a notification about the next date of a case`s hearing. But how do I check the status of a case with the eCourts Services app?
