Although few people consider them drugs, the truth is that they are substances that create a change in brain chemistry that impacts behavior, so they can be considered as such. These are substances with a stimulating effect, which usually produce an increase in brain activation. Of course, its effects are much less important than those of other substances and require large amounts to become dangerous. Mexico City, 25 June 2021 – In the context of the COVID-19 outbreak, 26% of people have quit smoking in the past 12 months; 8.6 per cent alcohol; and 59.9% of illegal drugs, revealed by the report on the state of mental health and the use of psychoactive substances 2021, presented today by the authorities of the Mexican Ministry of Health. Acknowledging the work of the Mexican government in this area, Hölge stressed the need to secure public funding for the drug prevention and treatment strategy and to strengthen international cooperation in the surveillance of ports and borders to stop criminal groups and illicit drug trafficking. There are many legal drugs that exist that can be used differently by the population. Some use it as a recreational element, while in other cases, users intend to benefit from the relaxing or exciting effects of the substance in question or use it to forget or reduce some kind of physical or emotional pain. Among the so-called legal drugs, some of the best known are the following. Do you feel the same about tobacco, marijuana, cocaine. ? We can distinguish three groups of drugs according to how they affect the brain: The following sections contain information about substances whose non-medical or scientific use is prohibited in our country (illegal drugs) and which are subject to the control of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).
These include marijuana, opioids (opium, heroin, morphine, fentanyl and others), cocaine, amphetamine-type drugs (amphetamines, methamphetamines and ecstasy), hallucinogens and others. However, there are a large number of substances that fall within this type of classification, and not all of them are illegal (although this does not mean that they are harmless and that their use or abuse can have serious consequences). What are legal drugs and what types are there? In this article, we will discuss it. But remember that there are certain substances that are legal in our country and that are also drugs (because when taken, they cause changes in our brain) such as tobacco, alcohol, drugs. But it`s important to remember that they`re not always legal. Tobacco and alcohol are illegal for children under the age of 18. Psychotropic drugs, and in reality all types of drugs, are a substance that can be considered a legal drug (this is not for nothing, drugs in English refer to both the concept of the drug and the drug) by creating a change in the patient`s nervous system (in the case of other drugs not associated with psychiatry, change the chemistry of other parts of the body). In principle, the use of these drugs is medical, which is why they are legal. However, many gain addiction and are even used wisely in some cases to try to improve their own skills or free time. The cannabis plant contains about 500 different chemical compounds, more than 70 of which are cannabinoids.
The main psychoactive substance in marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. The highest concentration of thc is found in the flowers of female plants, hashish and cannabis oil. Another important phytocannabinoid is cannabidiol (CBD), which, unlike THC, has no psychoactive effects. Some synthetic cannabinoids have been developed in search of molecules that could have therapeutic benefits, but others are synthesized in secret labs to be sold as substances of abuse. The latter are not copies of the plant`s molecules, as the colloquial names “synthetic cannabis” or “synthetic marijuana” seem to show. Although they act on the same receptors as THC, synthetic cannabinoids have more intense psychoactive effects and greater toxicity. The best known are “spice” and “K2”, but there are many others with code names that usually start with the letters JWH, AM or HU, followed by numbers. Buyers of these substances recognize them well, but they are generally unknown to the public. Synthetic cannabinoids of this type dissolve in liquids used to spray conventional herbs to market them as if they were natural products and are part of the so-called “new psychoactive substances”. Most cannabinoids act on two main types of receptors: CB1 and CB2. CB1 is abundant in the nervous system and mediates, among other things, the psychoactive effects of THC and its addictive ability. CB2 receptors are found in abundance in the cells of the immune system, which is responsible for the body`s defense against infections.
CBD has no significant effect on either of these two receptors. It is important to know what drugs exist, or at least which ones are most consumed, and the effects they produce. This way, you`ll know what it`s about and you`ll be better able to talk about it with your son or daughter. We are dealing with substances that are legal because their initial use is not related to the consumption or administration of the substance as such in the body. The name is volatile because the route of administration is usually inhaled or aspirated. These are substances such as glue, essence, anesthetics or ketones that some people use to notice psychoactive effects, usually of the depressed type. Of course, as we indicated in the introduction that they are legal, this does not mean that they do not represent a danger, since the abuse and / or abuse of them is very dangerous and harmful to health and can cause serious diseases or even lead to death. In the psyche of most Spanish speakers, the term drug is associated with an illegal substance: when we hear about drugs, the first names that come to mind are probably cocaine, heroin, ecstasy or LSD. There are many types of drugs and many types of effects. You will see a summary table with some of the most used drugs in Spain and also what their effects are.
In summary, the Ministry of Health (Ssa) points out that Mexico is facing a major public health problem. This problem requires programs and measures that promote a healthy lifestyle. It is important to pay particular attention to the group of young people and women, as surveys show a clear tendency to increase their drug use. Probably the most commonly used psychotropic drug in this regard is benzodiazepines, which are mainly used to treat anxiety.
