Legal advice should be a right, not a privilege. But it`s too expensive for many people and legal aid and municipal legal centers are very limited or remote. Our community has many problems that could seek legal advice, but people often don`t get the help they need. Mainly because of the cost. This can be a contract you need or a claim against your employer. Maybe you want to dispute a driving fee or there is a will that you keep forgetting. Taken together, it`s a bit like having an untreated disease in the whole community. We should solve this problem. NRC provides free legal advice to residents of northern rivers. We give priority to our target groups: women; recipients of social assistance; persons with disabilities; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and intersex; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; Cultural and linguistic diversity, young and old. Recently, at Byron Community College, I taught a course on social enterprises – local nonprofits and community projects.
